The Private Sector received a request from one of our voluntees to help a single mom in Detroit, named Shajuan.
Shajuan has 5 young children. She supports her family with a minimum wage job at Walmart. When Shajuan's car died, her life became much more difficult. Our volunteer asked The Private Sector to help Shajuan get a good used car, and we would like to say yes to her request.
If you would like to pitch in some money for this project, please let us know. Our goal is to help Shajuan get a good serviceable vehicle.
Thank you,

Update on Shajuan’s car project
Our volunteers and supporters have been active in the quest for transportation for Shajuan!
One volunteer offered to donate a used Toyota Camry! We are in the process of checking out the car, and arranging to ship it to Detroit. Before sending it to Shajuan, we want to fix some minor repairs and detail the car. One volunteer asked to help gather a “car goodie basket” to put in the trunk. This would contain an ice scraper, water, extra oil, and whatever we can think of that will make the gift more special.
So far we have raised about $1500. which will almost cover the cost of repairs and shipping. We only need another $750.! If you would like to get in on the fun and contribute to Shajuan’s car project, simply make a gift on the donate page and add a note in the message box, that your gift is for Shajuan’s car project.
We’ll keep updating our progress in this space.

Our beautiful donated used Toyota has arrived. It has been spruced up with a few minor repairs. It passed it’s smog test and we transferred the title to The Private Sector. We are now waiting for the fresh new title to arrive so we can call the car shipper bring it to Detroit to be re-donated to Shajuan,
In the mean time, while the car is in our possession, one enthusiastic volunteer continues to clean and polish it up. For an old car, it looks and drives great. With only 160,000 miles on the odometer, we expect Shajuan to have several years of trouble free driving.

All the paperwork was completed, all the needed funds raised, and the car was shipped to Detroit. The photo on the right shows the car being loaded on a truck in California.
And here it is at it’s destination in Detroit!
3 of Shajuan’s 5 children are in the photo. Her youngest daughter, show on the right, was overheard saying, “now Mommy can drive us anywhere we want to go!”
